R-GX GDK
R-GX GDK, the Game Development Kit for Amstrad CPC Plus and GX4000, shown with a GX4000 console and an R-GX cartridge.

One kit. Every tool. Your cartridge.

Start with an idea. Finish with a cartridge.

R-GX GDK is a Windows kit for the Amstrad CPC Plus and GX4000. Draw your levels, bring in your characters and music, and see every change running in the emulator as you go. A good game still takes time.

Where to start

No need to know the hardware

New to the CPC Plus? Follow the steps and use the tools one after another. The kit handles the hardware, and you build your game one step at a time.

The kit

The hard part is already done

Most CPC Plus projects stall before the fun begins, with weeks of low-level code and a pile of separate converters before a single tile moves. R-GX GDK puts every tool in one kit and starts where the fun does.

Sprite import

Bring in your sprite art and the kit turns it into hardware sprites.

Sprite animation

Build animations frame by frame and preview them before anything is generated.

Image to tilemap

Import a background picture and the kit cuts it into a tileset and a tilemap. Or paint maps in the Tile Editor.

Music and sound effects

AY, AYT, FAP, MIDI, MOD, SND, SNDH, WAV, YM and more. Bring your music as it is, and the kit does the rest. Sound effects can be linked to your animations.

Tracker and MIDI Sequencer

Compose your music right inside the kit.

Emulator in the loop

Preview, test and debug your game in ACE-DL as you build it.

Camera

A camera that follows the action with natural, smooth movement. Adjust it easily by dragging its limits into place.

Cartridge build

Your levels, sprites and music are turned into Z80 source and data, then assembled by RASM, the fast Z80 assembler by Édouard Bergé, into a ready-to-run .cpr cartridge.

And Much More...

Built for the Plus, and only the Plus

R-GX GDK is for the 464 Plus, the 6128 Plus and the GX4000 only. Games made with it will not run on a classic CPC 464, 664 or 6128.

In progress

Watch it being built

R-GX GDK is a work in progress and not available yet. Progress goes up on the channel: interface passes, tool demos, and game demos running on the Plus. Follow along to watch it grow and to hear first when it opens.
